On a Saturday morning, after a yoga class,
you may find Barbara sipping on a mimosa at her favorite restaurant
in downtown Ventura before her weekend farmers market buying ritual. Fascinated
with documenting life’s juxtapositions, Barbara fell madly
in love with the capabilities of the camera in junior high and a
decade later she learned that her grandfather was a professional
photographer in Lima, Peru. He was a pioneer in aerial and
documentary photography in the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. Captivated
by his vast collection of self-printed black and white images, it
became clear to Barbara that her desire to capture life’s moments
on film ran deeper than she ever imagined. She pursued
her passion and graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in
Santa Barbara—the same location where she met and married her
true love. Together they are raising their two children in
the sunny surf city of Ventura. Despite the challenges of raising
a young and expanding family, Barbara continues numerous photography
awards including international awards for her art. Her work
has been published in various publications, including the national
bridal magazine, The Knot, and has graced the cover of glossies
including Coastal Woman Magazine and Wedding Celebrations.
If you ask Barbara, “What differentiates you as a photographer,” she
will tell you that is just… her—it’s not the film
she uses, the awards she’s won, the publications she’s
been featured in or the beautiful wedding packages she offers, it
is simply that she offers her full and true self to every subject
that she works with. It is equally important for Barbara to get to
know her clients on a personal level, as she believes a strong personal
connection is the key to creating photographs that evoke emotion
and provide inspiration for years to come. Barbara’s
personable, sincere and light-hearted demeanor as well as her commitment
to making her subjects feel 110 percent comfortable has resulted
in many long and lasting relationships with her clients. Take
a look at what they have to say.
